As I was reading my Facebook news feed, I came upon this article from www.al.com, aggregated news source,This week in the library, students in grade 4-6 will learn the power of words. The old adage, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me," may not ring as true as we think. Students are learning about cyberbullying and how words can be very powerful.
On Monday, January 12th, 4th graders discussed solutions to a situation where cyberbullying is occurring. Many of the students had very thoughtful responses to how to respond when being bullied in addition to why bullies bully others. On Tuesday, January 13th, 5th graders discussed the reasons why people bully others. One 5th grader responded to the question posing if you were in a situation of cyberbullying (see student work sample): As we welcome the New Year and all the promise it brings, think about it as a reminder to reset your passwords! Keep in mind the strong passwords lesson we went over to choose a password that is not easily hacked.
