Welcome to the School Library!

Welcome to the Banks School Library & Media Center. Banks School serves grades K-8 and located in Pike County, Alabama. Our collection has approximately 9,000 holdings which includes a diverse collection of non-fiction, fiction, reference, and picture books for grades K-8.

Banks School Library Media program is comprised of two libraries serving grades K-3 and one serving grades 4-8. The library is currently working towards upgrading and incorporating more technology such as a mini computer lab for student use, eReaders, and digital materials. The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) houses many of the reference materials of the Banks School Library in a digital format for students to use at school and at home. It is a free service provided by funding at the state level for any Alabama resident to use.

Mrs. Dillard has served as the library media specialist since 2011. She earned her Bachelor's of Science degrees in Social Science and Secondary Education from Troy University in 2007 and earned her Masters in Library and Information Science from The University of Alabama in 2011. Prior to her position as LMS, she was a classroom teacher where she taught social studies grades 9-12 at Pike County High School in Brundidge, Alabama.

It is it mission of the Banks School Library to foster a life-long love of reading in each child. We strive to provide materials for a wide variety of reading interests, levels, and contents. Banks students participate in Accelerated Reader program to encourage reading at all grade levels. Students are rewarded each nine week grading period for reaching point goals and maintaining an 85%, or better, percent correct average on all tests taken. The AR Rewards are listed here for the 2014-2015 school year: AR Rewards.

We welcome you to visit the Banks School Library. It is important that our stakeholders know we are here to support our students, teachers, parents, and community. Reading holds such an important key to unlocking many educational and occupational opportunities in the future for our students. We all play an important role in the education of our children.
