Dear Parents,
Let your child experience the joy of giving this holiday season in a safe, educational and fun environment at the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe at Banks Primary School on December 1-3, 2014. An envelope will be sent home that will safely and conveniently hold money for your child's shopping. Our reasonably priced gift items range from $0.25 to $12.00 with the majority of the items falling between $1.00 and $4.00. Once your child steps into the shop, they will be greeted by Mrs. Dillard, and/or parent volunteer,s who will offer to help them stay within their budget and make gift selections for everyone on their list. You can join in on the fun by helping your child choose who they will surprise with a gift and suggest ways for them to earn extra holiday money. Look for notes to come home in the Tuesday Take Home Folder on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. This is a fundraiser and service project for the Banks School Library.

There will be a great selection of teen books for the 7th and 8th graders as well ranging from authors such as Sarah Dessen, John Green, and other great authors. At a workshop for librarians, I met author Peter Lerangis. He has authored some of the 39 Clues series that so many of you love to read! He was such a hilarious person, and it was amazing to meet him. On Monday, September 29th, Dr. Don Stewart, an Alabama artist from Homewood, Ala., visited the Banks Primary School 3rd Graders. During the summer, Mrs. Flowers and Mrs. Smith, 3rd grade teachers, Mrs. McKenney, resource teacher, and Mrs. Dillard, librarian, attended the ArtBridges Workhop sponsored by the Johnson Center for the Arts this summer. Dr. Stewart worked with participants to learn how to integrate arts education into other subject areas. As a part of the workshop, we were honored to have Dr. Stewart visit our 3rd grade students and work with them creating one-of-a-kind Monticellos! Slide Show of Dr. Stewart's Visit at BMS & BPSThe Book Fair will be at the primary campus beginning on September 1st and ending September 5th.
The primary campus will be hosting a GRAND event at the Book Fair in conjunction with Grandparents' Day. All GRANDs are invited to come to BPS around 12:45 PM where we will have a wonderful performance by each grade level, a classroom visit, and an opportunity to shop at the Book Fair with your student. |
